In partnership with the international organizations Riverwatch and Euronatur, the Center for the Environment organized the Neretva Science Week two years in a row, which brought together dozens of scientists and researchers from the region and Europe here in B&H.
Their task was to investigate the biodiversity of the upper flow of the river Neretva, which is untouched and preserved from human influence, and which is threatened by numerous harmful projects. With the aim to stop those projects, we submitted an initiative for the protection of this area.
Science weeks on the upper Neretva were held in the town of Ulog, in the municipality of Kalinovik in 2022 and 2023. Their results are two impressive reports and a series of scientific works. More than 2000 species were found, and several new species for science were discovered, one of them was officially confirmed and named after the river Neretva Baeoura neretvaensis. Also, Science weeks brought important new insights into the life and functioning of the untouched river – something that has already been almost lost in Europe.
We are inviting you to an open webinar, which will be held on February 27 (Tuesday), at 18:00, where the results of the research will be presented and summarized, and covered by beautiful photos and videos from one of the last remaining wild rivers on the continent. We will also discuss the impact of scientific research on the Neretva River, and after the presentations you can ask questions or join the discussion.
The webinar is open to all interested participants with mandatory registration. The link to join the webinar will be available and sent to all registered participants on the day of the event, i.e. February 27.
