Representatives of the Centre for Environment at the Pecka Visitor Center held a media brunch today with the aim of introducing and drawing media attention to burning issues in the field of biodiversity and nature protection, and to their threat by the construction of small hydropower plants (SHPPs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The event is part of the activities of the “Eco-BiH” project funded by the European Union and the activities of the Regional Biodiversity Network (BioNET) supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

After a short presentation of the Pecka Visitor Centre, BioNET network and Eco-BiH project held in the Visitor Centre Pecka, a trip to the rivers Pliva and Janj was organized for participants with maximum compliance with all current safety measures related to the COVID-19 epidemic.

On these rivers, where new protected areas and tourism development are planned, journalists had the opportunity to visit the sites where SHPPs (Pliva) were built, and the locations where their construction is planned, and get acquainted with the issues related to these topics, as well as with the initiative of the Centre for Environment to protect the upper stream of the Sana River.
