Is it possible to turn back time? At Obedska bara nature reserve, Young researchers from Serbia managed to achieve just that. With persistence, systematic approach and cooperation with the competent institutions, long-term actions of restoring the pond in accordance with the needs of this unique ecosystem have resulted in return of endangered species that have left their habitat. Today, the black ibis is again nesting in Obedska bara, and young researchers were both, its host and guest this autumn, as part of a volunteer action to remove bushy and woody vegetation from wet habitats at this location.

Journalists took interest in specific issues encountered by Obedska bara and their implications for citizens and the environment. They were also interested in hearing about measures Young Researchers of Serbia and institutions took to alleviate some of these issues, as well as the opportunities created by turning Obedska bara into a paradise for sustainable tourism. In their reports from the event, journalists sent a message that keeping biodiverse natural areas is, now more than ever, of utmost importance for both physical and mental health of the citizens.
